SUMMARY:Cercle et Carré and the International Spirit of Abstract Art
DESCRIPTION:In Paris in 1929\, painters from around the world founded an influential but short-lived artistic group named Circle and Square\, after the geometric shapes fundamental to abstract art. Cercle et Carré and the International Spirit of Abstract Art showcases more than sixty works by thirty of Cercle et Carré’s participants\, as well as outlines the formation of the group and its artistic legacy. \nThe exhibition was organized by the Georgia Museum of Art\, University of Georgia\, with the addition of works from the collection of the David Owsley Museum of Art. Generous support for the exhibition was provided by the Daura Foundation. \nImage: Pierre Daura (American\, born Spain\, 1896–1976)\, designs for Cercle et Carré logo\, 1929. Participating Village merchants will be offering $2 items that range from an Art Mart goodie bag to $2 stix from Hot Box and $2 tots from Roots. Entertainment will begin at 3:00 PM with a live band on the east stage next to Greek’s Pizza and the Code Red Dance Team will kick off the east stage entertainment in front of Game Day. The event will showcase local Village businesses\, introduce area artists and vendors\, and promote the Riverside-Normal City neighborhood and its unique features\, like the neighborhood’s prime location between Ball State\, downtown Muncie\, and Minnetrista!
