Ball State University’s 2016 MWBE/V Supplier Fair – April 18, 2016

Ball State Alumni Center, 2800 W Bethel Ave.
Hosted by Ball State University and the Indiana Department of Administration (IDOA)

From 10:00 a.m. to 11 a.m., business owners may attend a FREE presentation on the process of becoming a university vendor as well as information on how to navigate the state contract and vendor process.

Speakers will include:

  • Roger Hassenzahl, Director of Purchasing Services
  • Carolyn Mosby, President and CEO of Mid-States Minority Supplier Development Council
  • Terrie Daniel, Deputy Commissioner of IDOA

Purchasing agents will be available to answer individual questions. No registration is required for the presentation.

Businesses who want to showcase their products and services to a variety of university departments may purchase a vendor table for $50. The registration fee includes one eight-foot table, refreshments, and lunch. Registration forms and fees are due by April 4.

Introduction to Hot Glass Weekend Paperweight Workshop

Registration is now open for an introduction to working with glass workshop put on by the Ball State Marilyn K Glick Center for Glass.

Day 1: Saturday, April 16 from 9:00-1:00 PM
Day 2: Sunday, April 17 from 1:00-4:00 PM
Where: Marilyn K. Glick Center for Glass
Cost: $135/person

*Must be 18 or older to participate.  No glass experience necessary.

In this two day workshop, participants will learn how to create their own paperweights in hot glass.  Saturday’s class will be a full day in the hot shop where instructors will guide participants in the proper safety and demonstrate various techniques in the morning.  In the afternoon participants will form molten glass with a variety of colors into their own paperweight which they can take home.  Sunday’s workshop will cover basic grinding and polishing of glass to help participants finish their paperweights.  The Sunday session is a half-day and will run 3 hours.  Cost for this two day workshop is $135.

I.D.E.A. Conference

Intentional Development and Education for Association Members (IDEA) Conference

Saturday, March 5, 2016, 9 AM – 3 PM
Ball State University L.A. Pittenger Student Center
Provided in partnership by Building Better Neighborhoods, the Shafer Leadership Academy, the City of Muncie, the Vectren Foundation, and Muncie Action Plan.

This invitation-only event brought together 130 community members representing each of Muncie’s neighborhoods to receive leadership training, share best practices, and network with one another.

Location:

The conference will be held on the second floor of the L.A. Pittenger Student Center, which is located on Ball State’s campus. Free parking will be available in the parking garage immediately behind the Student Center. Ball State classes will not be in session, and you will not need a pass to park there.

2016 Black History Month Community Forums

Tuesdays in February the City of Muncie and Mayor Dennis Taylor will be hosting a series of community forums.  These sessions are free and open to the public.  Everyone is welcome to attend and share their thoughts. Muncie City Councilman, Julius Anderson will moderate.

All Aboard: Board Leadership in Motion Workshop

Shafer Leadership Academy is conducting a free workshop titled All Aboard: Board Leadership in Motion on Wednesday, November 11th from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Innovation Connector (1208 W. White River Blvd, Muncie).

It is a three-hour workshop ideal for individuals who have a desire to serve on a not-for-profit board.

Participant Takeaways include:

  • An understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a not-for-profit board member
  • How to determine board opportunities that match interests, skills, & desired level of commitment
  • Guidance on how to be an effective board member
  • Insight on how to find potential board member opportunities
